ENTRY #6
Location:
Star Ferry, Central HK
Background:
"We're students studying economics at Chinese University who are out on a field trip today."
Opinion:
“Well, everyone has a different opinion on the issue.”
“Hong Kong is a lot more developed than China. China has issues with freedom largely due to its corrupt administration which cause Hong Kong people to dislike and distrust the Chinese government. Hong Kong's government is different from China's.”
What is your opinion of the mainland Chinese students at your university?
“The language barrier at school makes it difficult for students from mainland China to integrate with local students. When they can’t speak the local language (Cantonese), segregation is natural. They hang out in their own cliques.”
Are there ways to help them integrate?
“Well, there are activities in the school that encourage integration and classes to help them learn Cantonese. Oftentimes, many local Hong Kong students join them and play games.”
