I think the conflict originates from the differences in culture and political ideology. While I don't think the communist party has always made the best decisions for Hong Kong, it sure has supported Hong Kong a lot economically. Hong Kong's food, water, etc. all come from mainland. And the communist party offered Hong Kong people a lot of freedom as well.
Many young Hong Kong people believe that the Communist party's ultimate goal is to dissolve Hong Kong's democracy system, but I don't think the communist party is having this sort of "conspiracy" at all. The mainland people sometime think that the Hong Kong people just want independence, but this idea is wrong as well. Both sides have misunderstandings about each other, and I hope there could be more understanding between both sides.
I don’t sense the mainland China-Hong Kong conflict in SPS at all. The Hong Kong and mainland kids are pretty bonded, and we don't really believe that the political disagreements will separate us from each other. My life isn't that much affected by Hong Kong-mainland China conflict either. After, Hong Kong plays a very small role in mainland people's lives nowadays. What happens in Hong Kong only distantly affects my life.
However, there is certainly bias. As I said before, there's misunderstandings between two sides. The misunderstandings often cause bias against each other.
