Opinion:

I have no particular stance on the issue, but I believe due to the historical barriers (Britain colonization) between Hong Kong and mainland China, they may differ greatly in terms of political ideology. 

 

I believe there should be more communication between Hong Kong and the Chinese government. The Chinese government probably wishes to assimilate Hong Kong with other cities/provinces by taking over more control. 

 

I think right now the problem is that there isn't sufficient trust between the government and Hong Kong citizens for that change to occur. On the other hand, people in other provinces in mainland China think it's unfair that HK has been enjoying lots of special treatments, such as looser trade restrictions and a separate political system, so there's pressure on the central government to as well.
